Shortly after we arrived in the hospital on the 21st the doctor came in and said that Dawn’s blood pressure had lowered and the baby’s heart rate had increased already so she would likely be monitored for 24 hours and released. That night, things changed drastically. In the middle of the night, Dawn had got up to use the bathroom and went back to bed. She had just gotten back into bed when a team of nurses came crashing through the door and started maneuvering Dawn in different positions while looking at the monitor. Apparently when Dawn got up to use the bathroom, the baby’s heart rate had dropped drastically. We then realized that this was no longer a 24 hour stay. This happened several more times and each time was more unnerving than the last. By this time Dawn was afraid to move but by the third night, the heart rate was dropping while she was still in bed.
Thursday morning came and we were anxiously awaiting the visit from the doctor. When she did come, she delivered that most exciting yet nerve-wracking news to date. At 36 weeks and 2 days, Dawn would be delivering our baby that afternoon via caesarean section. Again, we had visions of this day and it was certainly not how we had imagined it. Dawn had hoped all along that she would not have to have a c-section. But when this moment came, we gave everything to God and realized that He would not only get us through this, but our faith in Him allowed our stress and worry to turn into pure excitement.
