This Christmas obviously had a very special meaning since it was Cooper’s first, we just had no idea what his reaction would be or how the day would go. Sometimes we conjure these images up in our head of how we hope things go, only to be disappointed when they do not even come close. This Christmas was definitely not one of those times.
It started Christmas Eve when we attended our church's Christmas service. Cooper was dressed in his Sunday best with his Christmas sweater and sport coat. He was busy the whole service making friends with the folks sitting around us. Thankfully, he did so quietly and was not disturbing. After church, we headed home, put Cooper down, and got ready for the big day by putting out Cooper's note to Santa and leaving a plate for him and his reindeer filled with carrots, popcorn balls and peppermint bark.
Christmas morning started like any other day with Cooper waking up hungry and ready to eat. After filling his belly, it was time to take him downstairs to see if Santa had come. He in fact did, and Cooper began tearing away at his presents. To be completely honest he seemed to be more excited about the process of opening the presents than the presents themselves. He didn’t make it too far and it was nap time. During his nap we enjoyed Dawn’s delicious breakfast casserole that she makes every year and enjoyed some quiet time before round two.
Cooper soon woke up and he was at it again. After he was finished opening all his gifts it was time to start playing with everything. Although he seemed to like all his gifts, he seemed too overwhelmed to devote any amount of time to just one toy. He just spent a few seconds with one and then quickly moved onto the next. All in all, everything was a big hit.
The rest of the day was pretty relaxing as we prepared for Christmas dinner and played with Cooper. Our friends Dustin and Leslie along with their little boy Bryce joined us at the house for the meal. Dawn put on a superb spread of stracotto, mashed potatoes, asparagus, chicken & dumplings, squash & spinach casserole, and a homemade apple pie for dessert. Dinner was absolutely scrumptious to say the least!
After dinner we played with the boys and visited with Dustin and Leslie. Before we knew it, it was Cooper’s bedtime and Christmas was just about over. It was not a big extravaganza and it was lacking a lot of hoopla, but as far as we’re concerned Cooper’s first Christmas couldn’t have been any better. He is growing so fast and time goes by so quickly, it is so nice to have these special moments to hold on to and cherish.
