December was quite a month to say the least. It started off on a high note as Auburn crushed South Carolina in the SEC Championship game on December 4th, earning them a spot in the national championship game. The game was held here in Atlanta and several of our friends came into town for it. It was a great weekend capped off with a win.
Things took a turn for a worse that Monday. At 20 weeks, Dawn had a regularly scheduled appointment with her OB the morning Monday, December 6th. She made the doctor aware of some issues she was having and the doctor said to immediately notify her if they worsened. Well, they got worse. She was in a meeting at the time and was instant messaging me asking me to call the office, thinking they would have some advice for her or maybe even want her to come in. I called and they told me to immediately take her to the hospital and the she was having contractions. Needless to say, I raced to her office, picked her up, and raced to the hospital.
Dawn would be admitted that night and ended up staying in the hospital until Thursday, December 9th. It took the doctors several days and several different medicines to slow down the contractions. By the grace of God, Dawn’s mother had already scheduled a trip to come visit. She arrived that Tuesday the 7th and I honestly don’t think we would have got through that time without her. She was able to take care of the girls and everything else at the house so I could stay with Dawn in the hospital the whole time. Once we left the hospital, she waited on us hand and foot. Dawn was on strict bed rest, which she would stay on for the remainder of the month.
Chris and Allie came up the following weekend to help decorate for Christmas. Everything was going smooth until Dawn’s contractions started again on Saturday and we were back at the hospital later that night. Thankfully, it was a false alarm and they let her go after only an hour. Chris, Allie, and Pat all left and we were on our own again. Well, not actually on our own. We had a lot of great friends who we were able to rely on, and thank God for them because we were about to rely on them a whole lot more!!
On Monday December 20th, I had surgery on my back. So in the midst of Dawn’s bed rest, I too would be laid up right beside her. Like I said, we’re blessed with some great friends who got us through. I had some friends with me in the hospital and Dawn had friends at the house looking after her. Casey and Robyn helped try to continue Dawn's annual cookie exchange tradition by surprising her with lots of home-made cookies. It really put a smile on her face. Chris came back up the following weekend to spend Christmas with us (well…..and to take care of us too). He cooked Christmas dinner and waited on us hand and foot the whole weekend. Even though we were both laid up, we did our best to get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy our time with Chris and Deac.
Angela, Jason, and the kids stopped on their way home from Tennessee and spent a few days with us too, which took us up to New Years Eve. They also waited on us hand and foot and took down all the Christmas decorations-including our 12' tree!
I was starting to feel better and Dawn was about to be released from prison, err I mean bed rest. Our lives were starting to move in a more positive direction and needless to say, we were glad to see December come to an end and are ready for all that 2011 has in store for us. We will always remember all of the cards, visits, calls, food, and e-mails during what seemed to be the worst month ever. Without all of the love and support from everyone we really would not have gotten through such a trying time and we thank God for each you!!
